The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service encourages passive observation: stay calm, remain at the surface, and let the animal choose whether to approach. Chasing, surrounding, riding, feeding, poking, or disturbing a resting or feeding manatee is prohibited throughout Kings Bay.
Cold weather can also trigger temporary in-water closures at Three Sisters Springs so manatees can rest without disturbance. A closure does not ruin the day. The boardwalk remains a strong above-water option, and local permitted operators understand current sanctuary boundaries and conditions.
